Family Liaison Officer

What is the Family Liaison Officer (FLO) role?

From the beginning of 2014, St Cecilia’s were offered the opportunity to have a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) working on site one day a week.

The focus of the role is supporting families and parenting. The FLO offers a listening ear to anyone who needs to sit down and talk about family difficulties. The FLO can assist teachers in maintaining contact with families through a difficult phase and can help families to access support by working with Catholic Care or other agencies as required and Class Parents to increase communication to families.

Part of the role includes working closely with various programs already run by the school, including Kidsmatter and Transition to School Program for new Kindergarten students and parents and the Seasons for Growth Program which is aimed at helping students cope with loss and change and developing resilience skills. New forums and programs for parents will be implemented as areas of need are identified in the school community.

The FLO can assist teachers in maintaining contact with families through a difficult phase and can help families to access support by working with Catholic Care or other agencies as required.
